The Multiblock Turbine is a subline feature of Big Reactors. It is a large, complex multi-block structure built from Turbine parts that consumes steam to produce RF and water. The basic parts are:. Now that it's done, connect your steam up to the Turbine Fluid Port. After it has steam, you can right-click the Turbine Controller and press the Activate button. You should see your Turbine spin up and begin producing power, which will be stored in the Turbine's energy buffer. A Turbine will buffer up to 1 million RF; any further power produced will be lost. When one or more Coolant Ports are present, the reactor will be placed into active cooling mode. An actively cooled reactor will not generate any RF energy on its own.

Water must be pumped in, and the resulting steam pumped out. The steam can be used in a Steam Dynamo or in the multi-block turbine structure. While this is more complex, it provides a way to increase the efficiency and output of a reactor without expanding the reactor itself. Big Reactors Grid Control

A basic Big Reactor is a small 3x3x3 multi-block structure. It requires at a minimum 22 Reactor casings, a Reactor Controller, an intake port to get fuel into it, an export port to get waste out, a fuel Control Rod, and a Reactor Power Tap which supplies power to whatever cable you attach to it.

In order to make even the smallest 3x3x3 reactor you are required to have a supply of Yellorium ingots, both for the crafting of the parts and also as fuel which will be needed to burn to make energy. Yellorium is made from Yellorite Ore which can be mined near the bedrock layer Y elevation on most servers. Several tutorials already exist to help you get started with a basic reactor so please reference them if you are new to the mod.

Once you are familiar with the basics then the rest of this guide will prove much more useful as a How-to-Design and How-to-Manage your setup. Even during the early stages of the game it is strongly recommended to build a reactor that will allow you to expand.

Reactor design for passive reactors can be complex, especially as you move to larger and larger reactors. Many players only use passive reactors as it is very difficult to outgrow them and once you understand them they are very easy to manage. Active reactors burn fuel to make heat which turns water into steam.

The steam is then vented into a turbine which makes the energy. The turbine is separate multi-block structure.

The principle is simply that you can run several turbines from a single reactor which in theory would allow you to produce more power for less fuel. The increased complexity of the design however prohibits many people from doing this as you need to know how to really fine tune both the reactor and the turbine s.

This complexity quite often results in less efficient or less flexible implementations. For the rest of this article we will focus on Passive reactors only. But the bigger reason is one of scale. This is more output than any active reactor setup I have ever seen even on Youtube and streams. One of the biggest constraints for a mega-sized active reactor is actually a mega-sized water supply. The reactor's ability to draw in water fast enough is the first problem but the internal water buffer is also a prohibitive hard constraint.

This does not mean that active reactors are invalid, on the contrary they are extremely valid and useful and can expand your power output to incredible levels - if you know how to build and manage them.

But the body of knowledge required to do that exceeds the scope of this guide and is better left to it's own guide. The easiest method for managing your reactor aside from letting it run on it's own for eternity is just to manually turn it on and off when your power storage runs low. All passive reactors and turbines output energy to the same grid. You CAN have passive reactors and turbines output energy to different energy grids.

While this poses absolutely NO problem for passive reactors, you will have to set some turbines to "independent"-mode more on that below.

If you want your reactors and turbines to properly cooperate, you'll also need to connect at least one energy storage block to your energy grid. Currently supported storage "blocks" are:. When a new passive reactor is connected to the controller, the controller will first try to measure its maximum energy output. After calibration has been completed, the controller calculates the most efficient energy output of the reactor. For this to work correctly the reactor must be able to output at least SOME steam read: you need a consumer and you will need to provide sufficient ammounts of water.

For this to work, make sure your turbine is built correctly. Should your turbine exceed RPM at any stage, the controller will shut down the turbine and flag it as failed.

You can click or touch on any of these items to open up a detailed view of the component. In PWM mode the reactor will generate energy at its most efficient rod level.

Overall this mode allows the reactor to generate energy as efficiently as possible as long as your actual energy consumption is below or equal to its optimal energy output.

Steam is consumed and produced way too fast and the reactors internal steam storage does not allow for anything else. The only difference between these two modes is that turbines in "ganged"-mode can be shut down by the controller, while "independent" turbines will always be active, even if they overproduce energy at the lowest RPM allowed.

One could get so-called multiplication measurements, how many neutrons appeared as a result of the collisions and the fissions inside the core for each neutron which impinged from the water boiler. Quite a number of experiments of that sort were done.
